Don’t Mistake Cash Flow For Profit – Williams Uchemba to Business Owners Posted by Thandiubani on Wed 27th Aug, 2025 – tori.ng Uchemba explained that putting money into a business does not equal profit until the initial capital is fully recovered. Actor and entrepreneur Williams Uchemba has sent a message to small and medium-scale business owners. He explained to them the difference between cash flow and profit. Speaking in an Instagram video shared on Tuesday, Uchemba explained that putting money into a business does not equal profit until the initial capital is fully recovered. “If you invest one million naira into a business, you’ve not started making money until that one million naira has returned from customers,” he said. He added that many entrepreneurs confuse handling cash with making a profit, a mistake that often leads to dipping into their capital and eventually running out of funds to restock. “That is why bookkeeping is important,” he added. “If you buy something for ₦2,000 and sell it for ₦2,300, you bring out that ₦2,000 because it’s not your own. Your money there is ₦300. Don’t go and start eating the ₦2,000 thinking you’re making money”, he added. According to him, in Igbo, this practice is called ‘Isiego’, which means separating capital from profit. Uchemba, who also runs Prosthesis Entertainment and the Williams Uchemba Foundation, stressed that poor money management and disregard for proper records are major reasons many small businesses collapse within a short time.
